The genus Carcinops belongs to the family Histeridae within the order Coleoptera. These beetles are characterized by their compact, flattened, and highly sclerotized bodies, which allow them to maneuver effectively through decaying organic matter and confined subterranean spaces.
In an agricultural and veterinary context, Carcinops pumilio is the most widely recognized species. It is important to emphasize that these beetles do not damage crops or plants. Instead, they act as significant biological control agents, preying on the eggs and larvae of various dipteran flies that thrive in poultry and livestock manure.

The impact on infrastructure is minimal, though high densities might sometimes occur in poorly managed litter.
Management strategies should focus on sustainable sanitation rather than chemical eradication. Since they serve as natural enemies to fly pests, the use of broad-spectrum insecticides should be avoided to prevent the disruption of this natural biological control.
