Systematic position of this pest belongs to the class Arachnida, order Trombidiformes, and the family Eriophyidae (gall mites). This species is a microscopic ectoparasite specifically adapted to colonizing the foliage of various oak species.
Host plants and damage symptoms include primarily members of the Quercus genus. As a result of the mite's feeding, characteristic growths known as galls form on the leaf surface. These galls appear as small bumps, pits, or hairy patches, causing leaf distortion and often leading to premature leaf drop during the growing season.
