Chlorophorus is a genus of longhorn beetles belonging to the family Cerambycidae. These insects are significant pests of wood, causing economic loss by infesting various deciduous trees, shrubs, and woody ornamentals throughout different regions of the world.
The larvae of Chlorophorus are strictly wood-boring, targeting species such as oak, beech, walnut, and sometimes fruit trees. By tunneling deep into the trunk and branches, they compromise the structural integrity of the tree, disrupt the flow of nutrients and water, and often serve as vectors for secondary fungal infections.
The life cycle of these beetles typically spans several years depending on environmental conditions.
