The genus Chrysophtharta belongs to the order Coleoptera and the family Chrysomelidae. These beetles are highly specialized pests known for their significant impact on trees within the Myrtaceae family, particularly the Eucalyptus genus. Their ability to colonize large plantations makes them a significant concern in commercial forestry and ecological studies.

The primary hosts for these beetles are Eucalyptus species. Both adult beetles and larvae consume foliage, which negatively impacts the tree's health and development. Severe infestations lead to the defoliation of the canopy, severely hindering photosynthesis and resulting in stunted growth or even tree mortality, particularly in young saplings or weakened plantations.

The life cycle of Chrysophtharta follows the standard pattern of complete metamorphosis: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. Eggs are typically laid in clusters on the leaves.
