The complex of sucking pests encompasses various insects and mites that feed by piercing plant tissues and extracting sap. This group primarily consists of species from the orders Hemiptera and the family Tetranychidae. These organisms are recognized globally as major agricultural threats due to their capacity to cause widespread damage to both commercial crops and ornamental plants.

These pests target a vast array of crops, showing little selectivity when food sources are abundant. Key plants susceptible to these infestations include fodder beet, apple trees, plum trees, tomatoes, and potatoes. Because they feed directly on the vascular system, even moderate infestations can lead to significant physiological stress for the host plants.

The biology of these pests is characterized by short life cycles and high reproductive rates. Many species can produce multiple generations in a single growing season, often utilizing parthenogenesis to proliferate rapidly under favorable, particularly warm and dry, environmental conditions. This rapid turnover makes monitoring and timely intervention critical to prevent population explosions.

Damage symptoms include leaf chlorosis, curling, stunted growth, and a general loss of vigor. The direct removal of sap weakens the plant's structural integrity, while the secretion of honeydew often encourages the growth of sooty mold, further interfering with photosynthesis. Furthermore, they are efficient vectors for numerous plant viruses, which often prove more devastating to yields than the feeding process itself.

Effective management requires an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach:
