The giant pine aphid (Cinara pinea) is a significant pest belonging to the Aphididae family. These insects are specialized feeders that inhabit various species of pine trees, significantly impacting tree health through intensive sap-sucking activities.

The primary hosts of this species include members of the Pinus genus, such as the Scots pine and Austrian pine. Infestations are particularly problematic in young forest stands, nurseries, and ornamental landscapes, where the aphids can cause severe stunted growth and vitality loss.

The life cycle of Cinara pinea is quite complex, often involving overwintering eggs laid on the needles. As spring arrives, these hatch into nymphs that begin feeding.
