Clarkeulia deceptiva is a species of moth belonging to the family Tortricidae, order Lepidoptera. This insect is recognized as an agricultural pest due to the damage its larval stage causes to various host plants, significantly impacting orchard productivity and the overall quality of fruit production.

The pest primarily targets Rosaceae family crops. Fruit-bearing trees such as apple, pear, and various stone fruits are susceptible to infestation. The larvae cause direct damage by feeding on young vegetative buds, blossoms, and the developing fruit, which often results in fruit abortion or deep scarring that reduces market value.

The life cycle of Clarkeulia deceptiva consists of four distinct stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult moth. Adult females lay eggs on foliage or bark. Upon hatching, the larvae immediately begin feeding, often spinning leaves together with silk webbing to create protective shelters. This behavior complicates chemical control, as the larvae are hidden from contact sprays.

The primary form of damage involves the larvae boring into fruit flesh, creating tunnels that promote secondary infections like rot. By destroying the internal tissues of the fruit, the pest causes premature ripening and dropping. In high-density populations, the cumulative damage leads to significant yield losses, requiring early detection and intervention to maintain orchard health.
