Clepsis peritana belongs to the order Lepidoptera, specifically the family Tortricidae. This moth species is a known polyphagous pest, meaning its larvae feed on a wide variety of herbaceous and woody plant hosts, posing a significant challenge to agricultural productivity and ornamental nurseries.

The pest primarily targets crops such as strawberries, various vegetables, and broad-leaf ornamental plants, as well as common weeds. The larvae feed on foliage, developing fruits, and floral buds, which leads to stunted growth and a substantial reduction in the marketability of the harvested crops.

The biology of the pest is highly dependent on ambient temperature. Females lay eggs in clusters, typically on the underside of leaves.
