Clytus lama is a species of longhorn beetle (Cerambycidae) within the order Coleoptera. As a wood-boring insect, it is recognized primarily as a forest pest that specifically targets coniferous tree species throughout its natural range in Eurasia.

The host range of Clytus lama includes various conifers, with a strong preference for spruce (Picea), although it may also be found on fir (Abies) and larch (Larix). The beetle typically infests weakened, stressed, or recently felled trees, playing a significant role in the breakdown of woody biomass within forest environments.

The life cycle involves the female laying eggs into the bark crevices of the host tree. Upon hatching, the larvae bore through the inner bark, feeding on the phloem and cambium layers. Before pupation, the larvae penetrate deeper into the sapwood to construct a pupal chamber. The entire development cycle usually lasts one year, depending on environmental conditions.

The damage caused by this pest involves the destruction of the tree's vascular system, which reduces the host's vitality. Furthermore, the larval galleries significantly degrade the wood quality, rendering it less valuable for timber production. High infestation densities can lead to the rapid deterioration of standing timber and stored logs.
