Coccinula

Coccinula is a genus of beetles belonging to the family Coccinellidae. While many members of this family are well-known predators, certain species within this genus exhibit phytophagous behavior, feeding on plant tissues and potentially causing significant damage to agricultural crops when their population densities reach critical levels.

Systematically, this genus is classified under the order Coleoptera. Their specialized feeding habits make them interesting for agro-ecological studies. Unlike their predatory counterparts, these beetles have adapted to consume green foliage, which can impair plant physiological processes and reduce overall harvest quality and quantity.
