Description
The flax moth (Cochylis epilinana) belongs to the family Tortricidae, order Lepidoptera. It is a highly specialized pest known to cause significant economic losses in flax cultivation (Linum usitatissimum) by targeting the plant's reproductive organs.
The larvae of the flax moth feed primarily on the developing seeds within the flax bolls. This feeding behavior is particularly destructive, as it directly reduces seed yield and significantly lowers the quality of the harvested material, rendering it unsuitable for industrial or reproductive purposes.
The life cycle of the pest involves overwintering as pupae in the soil or within plant debris. Adult moths emerge during the flax flowering period. Females deposit their eggs on the buds or sepals.
