The host range of this species includes economically significant plants such as maize (corn), soybeans, and other legumes. Adult beetles are foliar feeders, causing characteristic damage to leaves, while the larvae are primarily root feeders, dwelling underground and directly impacting the root system of developing seedlings.

The lifecycle of Colaspis cuspidata consists of complete metamorphosis: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. The insect typically overwinters as a larva or pupa in the soil.
