Davies' colletes bee (Colletes daviesanus) is a species of solitary bee belonging to the family Colletidae. While primarily recognized as an important pollinator in wild and agricultural ecosystems, it is sometimes classified as a nuisance pest due to its habit of nesting in large aggregations, which can lead to structural damage in soil banks, mortar, or soft wood in agricultural facilities.

Taxonomically, this species is classified under the order Hymenoptera. The biology of the Colletes genus is distinctive because of the cellophane-like lining they apply to their brood cells. This secretion, produced by the Dufour's gland, protects the larvae from soil humidity and microbial pathogens, allowing them to survive in various substrates.

The life cycle involves a single generation per year, with adults emerging in the summer months. Females spend their time foraging for nectar and pollen, which is stored in the nest cells for developing larvae. After providing the cells with food, the female seals them, and the larvae develop until they pupate and eventually emerge as adults the following season.

The damage caused by this species is generally limited to structural degradation rather than direct feeding on crops. In an agricultural context, their preference for dry, sunny, and exposed banks or building gaps can undermine the stability of certain structures. Their activity is often most noticeable in early summer when the ground is perforated by numerous nest entrances.
