Conoderus capucinus is a species of click beetle belonging to the family Elateridae, order Coleoptera. These beetles are recognized as significant soil-dwelling pests. The larval stage of this insect, commonly referred to as a wireworm, is the primary destructive phase, causing extensive damage to the root systems and subterranean parts of various agricultural and horticultural crops.

This species is highly polyphagous, meaning it feeds on a wide range of hosts. Key crops at risk include corn (maize), potatoes, small grains, and various vegetable crops. By feeding on seeds, roots, and underground stems, the larvae cause significant stress to the host plants, which often results in stunted growth, wilting, and, in severe cases, the death of the plant.
