These pests are subterranean inhabitants, known for causing severe damage to a wide range of essential agricultural crops by feeding on roots, tubers, and seeds within the soil.

The biology of Conoderus hampei involves a complete metamorphosis. Adult beetles lay eggs in moist soil, which then hatch into larvae. These larvae are characterized by their hard, wire-like bodies. They live in the upper soil profile, where they actively move in search of food, often following plant roots and causing significant structural damage.
