Description
Coproica vagans belongs to the family Sphaeroceridae (lesser dung flies) within the order Diptera. These small flies are generally associated with decaying organic matter, making them a frequent inhabitant of greenhouses, mushroom houses, and agricultural waste sites where humidity levels are high.
This pest targets various vegetable crops, ornamental plants, and fungi grown in protected environments. They are particularly attracted to potting mixes or soil substrates that have not been properly sterilized or contain fresh manure, which provides an ideal nursery for their larval development.
The biology of these flies is characterized by a rapid reproductive cycle under warm, moist conditions. The life cycle comprises egg, larval, pupal, and adult stages.
