Taxonomically, they are categorized under the order Lepidoptera. Their life cycle is characterized by complete metamorphosis: eggs are typically laid on host leaves, hatching into larvae that feed aggressively, followed by pupation in or near the soil. Multiple generations can occur within a single growing season under optimal climatic conditions.

The primary hosts for these pests include cotton, okra, and hibiscus. Feeding damage is most intensive during the larval stage. Young caterpillars typically perform skeletonization of leaves, while older larvae consume entire leaf surfaces, leaving only the veins intact.
