The honeydew moth (Cryptoblabes gnidiella) belongs to the order Lepidoptera and the family Pyralidae. It is a highly polyphagous insect pest that causes significant economic losses in various horticultural and agricultural crops worldwide.
This pest attacks a wide range of host plants, including grapes, pomegranates, citrus fruits, apples, peaches, and corn. It is particularly notorious for damaging vineyards, as the larvae feed on the ripening berries, making them susceptible to further fungal infections.
The life cycle of the moth consists of the egg, larva, pupa, and adult stages. Depending on environmental conditions, it can complete multiple generations per year. Overwintering occurs primarily as a pupa, hidden in plant debris, bark crevices, or dried, mummified fruits left in the canopy.
