Description

Cydia toreuta, commonly known as the white pine cone borer, is a moth species belonging to the family Tortricidae. This pest is a significant concern for forestry, as it specifically targets the reproductive structures of coniferous trees, particularly the genus Pinus.

The primary hosts of this insect are various pine species, including the Scots pine. The larvae are specialized feeders that inhabit the cones, consuming the developing seeds and internal tissues, which directly impacts the natural regeneration and seed harvest potential of forest stands.

The life cycle of the cone borer is synchronized with the phenology of its host tree. Adult moths emerge in the spring, and females deposit eggs on the surface of young cones.
