The spruce gall wasp (Cynips strobilana) is a species of insect belonging to the order Hymenoptera and the family Cynipidae. The primary host for this pest is the spruce tree. The wasp specifically targets developing cones for oviposition. This activity disrupts the normal growth and physiological development of the cone, which leads to stunted growth, malformed scales, and ultimately results in the destruction or non-viability of the seeds contained within.
