Dalopius lateralis is a species of click beetle belonging to the family Elateridae within the order Coleoptera. As an agricultural pest, it is primarily recognized by its larval stage, widely known as wireworms. These soil-dwelling larvae are significant pests that cause damage to various field crops by feeding on the underground portions of plants.

The pest has a wide host range, feeding on cereal crops, root vegetables, potatoes, and young seedlings of various species. By targeting seeds, developing sprouts, and roots, the wireworms weaken the plant structure, causing significant yield losses and reducing overall crop uniformity. The severity of infestation often varies depending on soil type and previous crop management.
