Taxonomically, this organism belongs to the order Trombidiformes and the family Demodicidae. These mites are highly specialized permanent parasites that spend their entire life cycle residing deep within the hair follicles and sebaceous glands of the equine host.

The life cycle encompasses egg, larval, nymphal, and adult stages, all occurring within the host's skin. By feeding on sebum and epithelial cells, the mites maintain their population, which usually remains at subclinical levels unless the host's immune system is compromised.

Clinical signs of infestation, known as demodicosis, include alopecia (hair loss), scaling, and the development of papules or nodules, particularly around the face, neck, and shoulders. The condition causes irritation, which can lead to behavioral changes and secondary skin infections.

Control measures primarily involve veterinary intervention, utilizing acaricidal treatments to reduce mite populations. Maintaining overall animal health through balanced nutrition, proper grooming, and strict sanitary protocols in stables is essential for preventing outbreaks and ensuring herd wellness.
