It is not a parasite of growing plants but rather a saprophagous organism that thrives in specific organic debris.

The biology of this mite is heavily dependent on the presence of organic matter and high humidity levels. They feed primarily on desquamated skin scales and fungi associated with organic dust. In agricultural settings, they can colonize accumulation sites where residual plant dust and organic matter are present, creating a niche that supports their rapid population growth.

The developmental cycle consists of several stages: egg, larva, protonymph, tritonymph, and adult. They are highly efficient at exploiting environments that are stable and dark. Their reproduction rates are optimized when environmental temperatures remain between 20°C and 25°C, coupled with humidity levels consistently above 60 percent. Monitoring these conditions is essential for detecting potential outbreaks.
