Its impact is most felt in forest nurseries, seed orchards, and young pine plantations, where the larvae feed on both vegetative and reproductive structures.

The biological cycle of this insect typically consists of one generation per year. Adult moths are nocturnal, with peak activity during the summer months. Females lay eggs on the bark crevices or directly on the surface of young shoots and developing pine cones. Upon hatching, the larvae immediately seek out suitable sites to bore into the plant tissue, which provides them with shelter and food throughout their developmental stages.
