Biology and lifecycle: The cotton stainer undergoes hemimetabolous development, passing through egg, nymph, and adult stages. Females typically lay their eggs in protected, moist environments like soil crevices or under leaf litter. The nymphs resemble miniature versions of the adults but lack wings, which develop through successive molting stages. The duration of the lifecycle is heavily influenced by ambient temperatures, leading to multiple overlapping generations in warm climates.

Host plants: While cotton (Gossypium) is the primary economic host, Dysdercus andreae is polyphagous and feeds on various plants within the Malvaceae family.
