Description

The genus Ectinus is a member of the Elateridae family, commonly known as click beetles. These insects are significant agricultural pests due to their soil-dwelling larvae, which are widely recognized as wireworms. They are characterized by their elongated, hard bodies and their ability to flip themselves upright with a clicking sound if turned on their backs.

Wireworms feed on a vast range of cultivated plants, including cereals, maize, potatoes, and various root vegetables. Their feeding activity is most destructive during the early growth stages of plants, as they consume germinating seeds, roots, and subterranean stems, which often leads to poor crop stands and reduced harvest density.

The life cycle of the Ectinus species is complex and usually spans several years.
