This pest mainly attacks various hardwood tree species, showing a preference for hosts that are already stressed by environmental factors, drought, or mechanical injury. While they favor fallen logs, a surge in population can lead to successful colonization of standing, live trees, causing economic losses for forestry and fruit growers.
The biology of this beetle involves a complex lifecycle typical of wood-boring insects. Adult females lay eggs in bark crevices, and upon hatching, the larvae burrow into the cambium and xylem layers.
