Description

The genus Enaphalodes belongs to the order Coleoptera and the family Cerambycidae (longhorned beetles). These insects are significant wood-boring pests that primarily target deciduous trees, with a specific preference for oak species in North American forest ecosystems.

The main host plants are various oak species (Quercus), including both red and white oaks. While they often colonize trees already stressed by drought or environmental factors, they are capable of infesting healthy, mature timber, which leads to substantial economic losses in the forestry industry.

The biology and lifecycle of these beetles are characterized by a multi-year development period. Adult beetles emerge during the summer months to mate and oviposit. The larvae, upon hatching, bore into the sapwood and heartwood, where they spend most of their life tunneling and feeding on the wood fibers.
