The Banana Skipper (Erionota thrax) is a significant butterfly species belonging to the family Hesperiidae of the order Lepidoptera. The main host plants for this species are members of the Musaceae family, primarily bananas. However, the larvae are known to feed on a variety of related plants, including various palm species and ornamental plants like Canna and Heliconia, which allows the pest to sustain its population even in the absence of primary crops.
The life cycle of Erionota thrax consists of four distinct stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. The females typically deposit eggs on the leaves of the host plant.
