This pest is found primarily on various Datura species. Because they are eriophyid mites, they lack the typical mobility of other mite families, meaning they usually stay within the localized areas where they initially infested the host plant, forming colonies that gradually expand to new shoots.

The biological cycle of this mite involves multiple generations throughout the growing season, heavily dependent on host plant phenology. Adults overwinter in protected sites such as leaf axils or dormant buds. Once spring growth begins, they emerge to feed, triggering a physiological response from the plant tissue.

The primary symptom of infestation is the formation of galls — abnormal tissue growth and swelling induced by the mite’s feeding saliva.
