Eriophyes tlaiae belongs to the family Eriophyidae, commonly known as gall mites, within the order Acariformes. These microscopic arthropods are highly specialized parasites that feed exclusively on host plants, causing distinct physiological and morphological disruptions in the plant tissue.
The mite predominantly attacks Tamarix species, often found in arid and saline environments. By settling on the foliage and new shoots, the mite extracts nutrients directly from the plant cells, which triggers a biological response from the host plant.
