Eudia is a genus of moths belonging to the Saturniidae family within the order Lepidoptera. While many species are of interest to entomologists, some members of this genus are recognized as pests due to the feeding habits of their larvae, which can inflict significant damage on both forestry and fruit-bearing tree populations.

The host plants typically include various broad-leaved trees such as oaks, birches, alders, and fruit trees in orchards. The caterpillars are voracious feeders, often causing extensive defoliation by consuming leaf tissues during their larval stages, which impairs the plant's ability to undergo photosynthesis effectively.

The lifecycle of Eudia involves a complete metamorphosis: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. They generally overwinter as pupae enclosed in robust, protective cocoons often attached to twigs or hidden within the leaf litter. Adult moths emerge at the onset of the growing season to mate and lay eggs, ensuring the next generation of larvae is ready to feed on emerging foliage.

The primary damage caused by Eudia is the loss of leaf surface area, leading to stunted growth, reduced vigor, and increased susceptibility to environmental stressors. In high-density outbreaks, the persistent feeding can result in premature leaf drop, which has long-term negative consequences for the overall productivity and health of the affected plant species.
