Geotomus is a genus of insects within the family Cydnidae, commonly known as burrowing bugs or ground bugs. These hemipterans are specialized for subterranean life, possessing modified legs that allow them to move efficiently through loose soil. They are widely distributed and can pose significant challenges to agriculture due to their hidden nature.

This pest is primarily recognized for causing damage to rice crops, although it has a broad host range including various grasses, vegetables, and weeds. By feeding on the roots, Geotomus can affect the structural integrity of the plant's root system. The extent of damage is often correlated with soil moisture levels and the presence of abundant organic matter in the soil.

The biology of Geotomus is characterized by a life cycle deeply integrated into the topsoil. Adults and nymphs spend the majority of their time underground, where they locate suitable roots to feed on using their piercing-sucking mouthparts.
