The cotton stem borer (Glenea cantor) is a significant pest belonging to the Cerambycidae family within the order Coleoptera. It is widely recognized for its destructive potential in tropical and subtropical agricultural systems, particularly where cotton cultivation is predominant.

This beetle species has a broad host range, primarily targeting the cotton plant (Gossypium spp.). However, it is also known to infest various tree species, including the Kapok tree and several types of fruit and ornamental trees, which facilitates its spread across diverse ecosystems.

The biology of Glenea cantor is characterized by the internal development of larvae. Adult beetles lay eggs on the bark of stems or branches. Once hatched, the larvae bore into the woody tissues, creating extensive galleries that disrupt the vascular system of the host plant.
