The Libertina fruit moth (Grapholita libertina) is a species of moth belonging to the order Lepidoptera and the family Tortricidae. As a specialized pest, it primarily targets specific fruit-bearing trees, causing economic losses in orchard production. This pest mainly infests stone fruit crops, such as cherries and plums. The larvae are the primary damaging stage, as they bore into the fruit to feed on the flesh and seeds. The life cycle follows a complete metamorphosis: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. The insect typically overwinters as a mature larva inside a cocoon, tucked away in bark crevices or the soil litter. In the spring, adult moths emerge, mate, and begin the cycle of egg-laying on developing fruits or foliage, with generations overlapping depending on local climate conditions.

Damage caused by the larvae manifests as entry holes in the fruit, internal tunneling, and premature fruit drop. These wounds compromise the fruit's integrity, making it susceptible to pathogens and fungal rots. Consequently, affected fruit becomes unmarketable, leading to both direct loss of produce and secondary economic losses due to decreased storage life.
