These insects are biologically adapted to feed on woody plants, playing a role as xylophagous organisms. This pest typically targets a variety of deciduous trees, with a preference for weakened, stressed, or fallen timber. In an agricultural or horticultural environment, these beetles can become problematic when they infest nursery stock, ornamental trees, or trees in windbreaks that have been compromised by environmental stress or poor management practices.

The life cycle begins with the adult female laying eggs in crevices or wounds on the tree bark. Upon hatching, the larvae penetrate the bark to feed on the cambium and xylem. Their development process can span one or more years, depending on the environmental temperature and the nutritional quality of the wood, culminating in the pupal stage and subsequent emergence of the adult beetle.
