Hypnoidus bicolor is a species of click beetle belonging to the family Elateridae within the order Coleoptera. While many click beetles are considered minor pests, the larvae of this species, commonly known as wireworms, are significant soil-borne pests that can cause substantial economic damage in agricultural systems.
This pest affects a wide range of host plants, including major field crops like cereals, corn, sugar beets, and various tubers such as potatoes. The larvae are particularly destructive in the spring, as they feed on germinating seeds and the delicate root systems of seedlings, often resulting in poor stand establishment and yield loss.
