Systematic position: Lacon curtus belongs to the order Coleoptera and the family Elateridae, commonly known as click beetles. As a serious soil pest, its larval stage is widely recognized in agriculture as a wireworm. The adults are identified by their distinct body structure and their unique ability to right themselves with an audible clicking sound when flipped onto their backs.

Crops damaged: This species is a polyphagous pest, causing significant economic losses across various agricultural crops. Key targets include maize, sunflowers, potatoes, and various cereal crops. The larvae are particularly destructive during the early growth stages, often congregating in fields with high organic matter content and sufficient soil moisture.

Biology and life cycle: The life cycle of Lacon curtus is primarily soil-based. Females deposit eggs in moist soil environments, often near decaying organic matter. Once hatched, the larvae undergo several developmental stages, spanning multiple years before pupation occurs. This long larval duration makes them a persistent threat to successive crop rotations if not properly managed.
