Description
Systematic position: Leucoptera sphenograpta belongs to the order Lepidoptera and the family Lyonetiidae. This species is a notorious specialist pest recognized globally for its impact on the economic productivity of coffee-growing regions.
Host plants and damage: The pest primarily targets coffee plants (Coffea spp.). Larvae feed within the leaf tissue, creating serpentine mines that eventually expand into large necrotic blotches. This process severely impairs the photosynthetic capacity of the plant, leading to significant yield losses if left uncontrolled.
Biology and life cycle: The life cycle comprises four stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. The adult moth is small, typically with silvery-white wings. Females oviposit on the leaf surface.
