The genus Limnephilus represents a group of insects within the order Trichoptera, family Limnephilidae. While predominantly known as aquatic organisms, certain species within this genus are recognized as pests in agricultural systems, particularly in paddy fields and wetlands where they affect the development of crops by feeding on tender vegetation.

The economic impact of Limnephilus larvae is most pronounced in rice cultivation. By grazing on the submerged parts of seedlings and young plants, they disrupt the plant's structural integrity. Severe infestations can lead to significant thinning of stands, resulting in reduced yields and potential economic losses for farmers managing irrigated agricultural lands.

The biology of the organism is complex and deeply tied to its life cycle, which progresses through egg, larva, pupa, and adult stages. The larval stage is the most destructive period.
