This insect has a narrow host range, primarily infesting various species of holly (Ilex), which poses a significant threat to ornamental plantings in nurseries and landscape design projects.

The biology of this species is closely linked to the development of young foliage on the host plant. Adults and larvae feed on plant cell sap, leading to substantial structural changes in the leaf tissue.
