Systematic position: The Rhesus macaque (Macaca mulatta) belongs to the order Primates and the family Cercopithecidae. These intelligent mammals are highly adaptive, often encroaching on human-cultivated landscapes where they exploit agricultural resources, turning them into significant agricultural pests.

Host crops: These primates target a vast array of agricultural products. They are notorious for raiding fields of rice, wheat, corn, and sugarcane.
