It is a highly specialized scale insect known for causing significant damage to various pine species, primarily affecting tree vigor in plantations and landscapes.

Host plants: The primary host of this pest is the Japanese black pine (Pinus thunbergii). However, its distribution can affect other pine species within the same geographical area. The pest is particularly aggressive in regions where environmental conditions support large-scale outbreaks, often resulting in widespread tree decline.

Biology and life cycle: The life cycle involves distinct developmental stages, including egg, crawler (nymph), and adult stages. Females lay eggs protected by waxy secretions.
