The wavy dermestid (Megatoma undata) is a beetle belonging to the order Coleoptera and the family Dermestidae. This insect is primarily recognized as a significant stored-product pest, often found in granaries, warehouses, and domestic environments where dried food or organic materials are kept for extended periods.

This pest affects a wide array of agricultural commodities, including stored grains, seeds, dried fruits, and vegetable products. Because the larvae possess strong mouthparts, they can easily penetrate packaging materials like paper or light plastic, allowing them to infest large stockpiles of agricultural produce quickly.

The biological cycle of Megatoma undata follows a complete metamorphosis: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. The adult beetles are distinguished by wavy patterns on their elytra. The larval stage is the most destructive phase, characterized by dense hair covering, which provides protection against environmental stressors and allows them to survive in dusty and dark storage corners.

Larvae feed internally on grains and seeds, depleting their nutritional value and destroying the embryo, which drastically reduces germination rates.
