The Fortune click beetle (Melanotus fortunei) is a significant agricultural pest belonging to the Elateridae family within the order Coleoptera. Adult beetles are characterized by their ability to perform a sudden "click" jump when placed on their backs, a trait common to the species of this family. They are typically dark-colored and robust.

The primary economic damage is caused by the larval stage, commonly known as a wireworm. These larvae are highly polyphagous and target various crops, including corn, wheat, soybeans, potatoes, and sugar beets. They are notorious for their resilience and ability to survive in various soil conditions, making them a persistent threat to commercial agriculture.

The biological cycle of Melanotus fortunei is complex and typically spans several years in the soil.
