Menesia bipunctata is a species of beetle belonging to the family Cerambycidae, commonly known as longhorn beetles. This insect is recognized as a significant pest of lime (Tilia) trees, occasionally attacking other deciduous species within urban landscapes, nurseries, and natural forest ecosystems.

The biology of this species involves a life cycle typical for wood-boring longhorn beetles. Adult beetles are active during the warmer months, specifically from early summer. After mating, females deposit eggs into crevices of the bark. The larvae that emerge immediately begin burrowing into the inner bark and cambium layer, establishing their feeding sites.

The larval stage is the most destructive phase, lasting from one to two years depending on environmental temperature and host tree health. As the larvae mature, they extend their galleries deeper into the wood, causing structural damage. Before pupation, the mature larva prepares an exit gallery, ensuring that the emerging adult can leave the tree once metamorphosis is complete.

Damage caused by Menesia bipunctata is primarily focused on the disruption of nutrient and water transport within the tree. Infested trees often show signs of premature wilting, stunted leaf growth, and branch dieback. The presence of small exit holes and frass on the bark surface are key indicators of a growing infestation that can lead to tree death if left unchecked.
