The organism belongs to the class Bivalvia. Its body is protected by a thick, heavy shell, which allows it to thrive in diverse coastal conditions. It is primarily found in the western Atlantic, inhabiting sandy or muddy bottoms, where it burrows to feed on suspended organic matter via its siphons.
