The Mango bud mite (Metaculus mangiferae) is a microscopic pest belonging to the Eriophyidae family and the order Acariformes. It is a highly specialized mite that primarily targets mango trees, causing distinctive physiological disturbances and structural damage to the host plant.
This pest is exclusively associated with mango cultivation (Mangifera indica). It thrives by colonizing the buds, young leaves, and inflorescences. By feeding on the meristematic tissues, the mite disrupts the normal developmental pathways of the tree, which is a significant concern for commercial fruit production.
