Neomegalotomus parvus is a species of broad-headed bug belonging to the family Alydidae. It is recognized as a significant agricultural pest, particularly known for attacking legume crops across South and Central America, where it can cause substantial yield losses if left unmanaged.

Taxonomically, this insect is classified within the order Hemiptera and the family Alydidae. It is a well-adapted pest that thrives in various climatic conditions, utilizing its specialized piercing-sucking mouthparts to feed on the reproductive parts of host plants during their most vulnerable developmental stages.

The primary hosts of this pest include soybean, common beans, and various wild legumes. The damage is particularly severe during the pod-filling stage, as the bugs penetrate the pod walls to feed directly on the developing seeds, which leads to reduced seed weight and quality.

The life cycle of Neomegalotomus parvus consists of egg, five nymphal instars, and the adult stage. The pest is highly mobile, allowing it to migrate between fields as food sources become available. Multiple generations can occur within a single growing season, often leading to rapid population explosions during peak summer months.

The damage caused by these bugs is both quantitative and qualitative, as seed shriveling and necrosis are common symptoms of infestation. Effective management strategies include:
