Description

The Raspberry leaf miner (Nepticula braunella) is a small insect species belonging to the Nepticulidae family within the order Lepidoptera. As a specialized pest, it targets raspberry plants, causing significant cosmetic and physiological damage to the foliage during the growing season.

This pest is primarily found on raspberry plants (Rubus idaeus). The larvae are internal feeders, meaning they spend the majority of their development stage sheltered within the leaf structure, which provides them with protection from environmental factors and many contact insecticides.

The life cycle begins with eggs laid on the underside of leaves. Once the larvae hatch, they burrow into the mesophyll, the layer of the leaf where photosynthesis occurs.
